We traveled with friends who had been to Cuba 5 times before. They said that this resort was the worst one that they'd been to. We went to Memories Azul which is on Cayo Santa Maria. It was our first all-inclusive and we absolutely loved it. We had a nice room and the people were friendly although most of them couldn't speak or understand English. The place is huge and our unit was the furthest from everything...except the beach. It was a five minute walk to get there and it's one of the most beautiful beaches that I've seen. The sand was like powder. We spent most of the day there parked on chairs under the palapas which are thatch roofed structures. It was too hot to sit right out on the beach and we didn't want to take the chance on burning. We didn't mind being in the shade at all.
I didn't take many photos because I was having camera and eyeglass issues. I had forgotten to change the settings on my camera and not many photos turned out. As to my glasses....needed to carry 3 pairs with me. I'm fixing that issue at the end of this month.
Another issue that I had was an abcessed tooth. That started the Sat. before we went away. I was able to get to a dentist and was on heavy duty anti-biotics. We didn't want to take the chance of anything happening and then having to have work done in a foreign country.
Anyways....I won't go into a long list of complaints about this place. I was happy to get away. I will tell you though that the food wasn't the greatest but we didn't starve. The drinks were fabulous. We tried all kinds of tropical ones and I ended up drinking pina coladas most of the time. Not good for my cholesterol I imagine.
All in all we had a really, really good time. We're going back. DH has already been looking for trips and I've gone and bought 2 bathings suits, sunhat and coverups. I could be ready tomorrow to head on out again!
PS- I've been talking to some people and have recommendations for places in Cuba that are great and have
excellent food...Sol Guillermo, Iberostar Ensenachos Royal Hideaway, Melia Cayo Santa Maria.
Check out how long it takes to get from the airport to these places. We had an hour and a half ride to
Azul. We didn't mind it though because we got to see the country. The last two recommendations
come from a woman that I met on the plane who'd been to Cuba 30 times!
